Rightklik, thank you for the thoughtful comment. I had not thought of that angle. I am always amazed at my prejudice and am striving to understand others better so I can strengthen my faith. Recently, I learned that Christopher Hitchens was very pro-life. I had just assumed he was pro-choice because that is what most from the aethist/liberal side of the argument land. Again, thank you.

It might help to separate the ideas of atheism and natural selection.

One can put stock in the idea of natural selection without inevitably becoming an atheist.

To the point, natural section might be viewed as a process by which the entire species changes, not on an individual basis, but as a whole.

From that viewpoint, bullying or other forms of abuse could be seen as counterproductive at best.

But to the extent that atheism might be expected to give rise to nihilist attitudes, an atheist should be indifferent to abuse unless it affects him in some personal way, or unless he is burdened with the weakness of compassion.
